It can also affect sleep, cognition, sense of smell and bowel function.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Early symptoms that often go unnoticed include loss of smell and constipation. Sleep disturbances, such as talking or moving while asleep, may also occur. Other signs include changes in handwriting, a softer voice, slower walking and reduced facial expression. Because these signs are subtle, they are often attributed to stress or ageing, delaying diagnosis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Parkinson&#8217;s results from a combination of genetic and environmental factors.<br>Although most cases are not inherited, around 13% have an identified genetic link. As for ethnicity, the differences observed are usually related to access to health services. It is now considered a multifactorial disease rather than a condition determined by a single cause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Diagnosis is still mainly clinical, based on the patient&#8217;s history and a neurological examination. Although there have been advances in biomarkers such as alpha-synuclein, these are not yet part of routine practice. In research, work is already under way to detect the disease in its pre-motor stages. Artificial intelligence is beginning to complement this process by analysing patterns in clinical data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is currently no definitive cure for Parkinson&#8217;s, Dr. del Giudice stresses. The treatments available are aimed at controlling symptoms and improving quality of life. Thanks to more personalised therapies, many patients manage to stay active for years. In addition, multiple ongoing clinical trials offer a hopeful outlook for the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The therapeutic approach is multidisciplinary and includes medication, rehabilitation and comprehensive support. Levodopa remains the most effective drug for motor symptoms. In selected cases, deep brain stimulation, available in the country, is used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Technology has made it possible to optimise these therapies with increasingly precise systems. The progression of the disease varies between patients, with a gradual increase in motor and non-motor symptoms. Tools based on artificial intelligence make it possible to detect subtle changes in its course. This allows more timely treatment adjustments and more personalised follow-up.&nbsp; As a result, a better quality of life can be achieved in many cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recent advances point towards a future of earlier and more accurate diagnosis.<br>Research into biomarkers and alpha-synuclein tests continues to gain ground.<br>At the same time, artificial intelligence is speeding up the analysis of large volumes of clinical and genetic data.
