First, actions in response to the health crisis, delivering hygiene kits for protection against and prevention of the virus; second, actions to prepare for the hurricane season, delivering items that allow families to mitigate any risk from a passing hurricane; and finally a focus on economic recovery, ranging from home improvements to digital training for communities.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the housing crisis we have been fighting since our beginnings at Habitat for Humanity. Home is where we feel safest and most hopeful, but for many, safe and affordable housing remains out of reach,&#8221; says Cesarina Fabi\u00e1n, Director of H\u00e1bitat Dominicana.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As the economic crises arising from this context unfold, the need for affordable, safe and healthy housing becomes more evident, especially now that the home has become the first line of defence for protecting ourselves and our families.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Before COVID-19, millions of families were already facing unhealthy housing conditions, lack of access to drinking water and sanitation, and financial barriers to adequate housing. Today they are joined by many more who have lost income as businesses have cut hours or closed, increasing unemployment.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In our country, the housing deficit exceeds 2 million. These families need our support to fight coronavirus from home. The general instruction is to stay at home to stay healthy, and in this context housing conditions can literally mean the difference between life and death.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Today, more than ever, we need Habitat for Humanity&#8217;s mission to be raised like a banner and reach the families most in need. With this campaign, we want to achieve a world where everyone has a healthy place to live and contain the transmission of COVID-19, and where no one is forced to leave their home because of the economic hardship caused by the pandemic. The invitation is open to everyone, individuals and companies, who want to build homes and communities with us, but above all more hope at this very difficult time,&#8221; added Fabi\u00e1n.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Companies such as ADOCEM, Dominican Watchman National and Whirlpool have already joined the campaign, as have public figures and artists such as Pavel N\u00fa\u00f1ez, Ciudad de \u00c1ngeles, Yadhira Pimentel and chef Leandro D\u00edaz.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Through habitatdominicana.org, people can access the campaign, donate and join the efforts to help more Dominican families build strength, stability and self-reliance through safe housing.
