The event was attended by customers, employees, board members, shareholders, correspondent and multilateral banks, business groups and associations, opinion leaders and the media.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The event opened with welcome remarks from Ramiro Ortiz Mayorga, Chairman and CEO of Grupo Promerica, who said: &#8220;During 2020, the pandemic caused by COVID-19 has brought us uncertainty and pain. This calamity has created major health, economic and political challenges that require us to adapt in order to move forward. We have prepared this extraordinary event to analyse the challenges before us and the leadership we must take on to achieve the improvements we want for our communities. At Grupo Promerica we are ready to face the future together with strength and hope.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">To share valuable content and relevant information on current economic issues with participants and support their decision-making for 2021, independent experts with extensive backgrounds in economics and finance took part.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Luis Felipe L\u00f3pez-Calva, UNDP Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, spoke about the region&#8217;s economic outlook in his lecture entitled <em>When Structure Meets Circumstance: COVID-19 and Economic Prospects for Latin America and the Caribbean. <\/em> &#8220;The COVID crisis can create an opportunity for Latin America and the Caribbean to build more inclusive and cohesive societies. In this context, private impact investors are critical to achieving the SDGs and the region&#8217;s recovery towards an inclusive, productive and resilient future,&#8221; explained L\u00f3pez-Calva during his presentation<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">In the lecture <em>Rethinking Latin America&#8217;s Development Path, <\/em>Carlos Felipe Jaramillo, World Bank Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean, said: &#8220;The enormous economic and social impacts of the pandemic call on us to rebuild our economies on firmer foundations and to use this crisis to rethink the future we want for the region. It is important for the business community to help drive reforms aimed at raising productivity and competition, as well as improving education, quality healthcare for all and digital inclusion, areas crucial to the future of Latin America and the Caribbean.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">After both presentations, a round table was moderated by Leonardo Buniak, economist and bank risk rater, with Luis Rivas, Executive Vice President of Operations at Grupo Promerica and CEO of Banpro Nicaragua; John Keith, Executive President of Banco Promerica Costa Rica; and Ricardo Cuesta, Executive President of Produbanco Ecuador.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The round table addressed the situation of banking in Latin America in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the new business models emerging in response to the crisis and the transformations taking place in different industries as a result, including digital transformation, as well as Grupo Promerica&#8217;s plans to support its customers in these new areas of development.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">With this event, Grupo Promerica strengthens its closeness to its customers and the communities where it operates, driving relationship banking through a better understanding of their needs to foster economic development and wellbeing in each of the countries where it operates.
