It <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">follows a short-term sequential process of anatomical and functional repair, but <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">when it does not heal completely within six weeks, it becomes a chronic wound.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Various causes, such as insufficient blood or oxygen supply, infection, tissue inflammation, anaemia or a weak immune system, can contribute to the formation of a chronic wound. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In this regard, Dr. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Joan Mart\u00ednez, a wound care and healing specialist, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">said the most common chronic wounds are pressure ulcers, diabetic foot, and arterial and venous ulcers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">An important point Dr. Mart\u00ednez highlighted is that, to obtain an accurate diagnosis, the doctor <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">must assess the patient holistically, as a whole, including their family environment and current health condition, <span style=\"color: #8a0066\">&#8220;because <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"color: #8a0066\">most ulcers located on the lower limbs are caused by chronic venous insufficiency&#8221;<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mart\u00ednez, who is also Director of Operations at <strong><span style=\"color: #00aca7\"><a style=\"color: #00aca7\" href=\"http:\/\/curatechrd.com\/\">Curatech<\/a><\/span><\/strong>, added that <\/span><span style=\"color: #8a0066\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;<\/span><\/em><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"color: #8a0066\"><em>around 70% of leg ulcers are caused by venous disease, and almost 20% are due to arterial insufficiency or mixed arteriovenous disease. Approximately 85% of foot ulcers are caused by peripheral neuropathy, often complicated by arterial disease.
