{"id":12844,"date":"2022-11-18T16:06:28","date_gmt":"2022-11-18T20:06:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/afcomunicacion.com\/uncategorized\/cleveland-clinic-and-ibm-begin-installing-the-first-quantum-computer-dedicated-to-healthcare\/"},"modified":"2022-11-18T16:06:28","modified_gmt":"2022-11-18T20:06:28","slug":"cleveland-clinic-and-ibm-begin-installing-the-first-quantum-computer-dedicated-to-healthcare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/afcomunicacion.com\/en\/press-room\/cleveland-clinic-and-ibm-begin-installing-the-first-quantum-computer-dedicated-to-healthcare\/","title":{"rendered":"Cleveland Clinic and IBM begin installing the first quantum computer dedicated to healthcare"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>The computer is intended to boost the pace of biomedical research through high-performance computing.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>November 2022.- <\/strong>For the past 20 months, executives from <strong><mark style=\"color:#138c00\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Cleveland Clinic<\/mark><\/strong> and <strong><mark style=\"color:#138c00\" class=\"has-inline-color\">IBM<\/mark><\/strong> have been partners in a ten-year collaboration to develop quantum computing research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">The aim of this collaboration is to develop research on cloud computing, Artificial Intelligence (AI), understanding emerging pathogens and viral diseases, immunology and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">To achieve this, they created the <strong><mark style=\"color:#138c00\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Cleveland Clinic-IBM Discovery Accelerator<\/mark><\/strong>, a research centre that combines both organisations&#8217; expertise in healthcare, technology, quantum computing and medical research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">The significance of this collaboration lies in the installation of<strong><mark style=\"color:#0b5d8c\" class=\"has-inline-color\"> IBM Quantum System One<\/mark><\/strong>, the first commercial quantum computer, which is being installed on <strong><mark style=\"color:#138c00\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Cleveland Clinic&#8217;s main campus in Cleveland<\/mark><\/strong>, Ohio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement, the medical centre explained that the computer is &#8220;intended to fundamentally advance the pace of biomedical research through high-performance computing&#8221;. It is also the first quantum computer dedicated to healthcare. It is expected to be ready in a few months, in early 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The current pace of scientific discovery is unacceptably slow, while our research needs are growing exponentially,&#8221; said Lara Jehi, Chief Research Information Officer at<strong><mark style=\"color:#138c00\" class=\"has-inline-color\"> Cleveland Clinic<\/mark><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We cannot afford to continue to spend a decade or more going from a research idea in a lab to therapies on the market. <strong><mark style=\"color:#0b5d8c\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Quantum<\/mark><\/strong> offers a future to transform this pace, particularly in drug discovery and machine learning,&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">For her part, Dr. Ruoyi Zhou, director of the <strong><mark style=\"color:#0b5d8c\" class=\"has-inline-color\">IBM Research<\/mark><\/strong> \u2013<strong><mark style=\"color:#138c00\" class=\"has-inline-color\"> Cleveland Clinic<\/mark><\/strong> <strong><mark style=\"color:#138c00\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Partnership<\/mark><\/strong>, explained that the partnership seeks to harness the power of quantum computing, AI, the cloud and other computing solutions to accelerate discoveries in healthcare and life sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">Some of the solutions implemented by the partnership include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><mark style=\"color:#0b5d8c\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Generative Toolkit for Scientific Discovery<\/mark><\/strong>, an AI model that infers hypotheses and accelerates research processes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><mark style=\"color:#0b5d8c\" class=\"has-inline-color\">RXN<\/mark><\/strong>, a cloud-based platform that combines AI models with the ability to directly control robotic labs to enable the design and synthesis of new chemical compounds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><mark style=\"color:#0b5d8c\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Deep Search<\/mark><\/strong>, an AI tool that generates insights from large volumes of structured and unstructured technical literature.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-list\">\n<li>High-performance hybrid cloud computing technologies that allow researchers to &#8220;burst&#8221; their workloads into the cloud and access the resources they need at scale.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"47\" src=\"https:\/\/afcomunicacion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Cleveland_Clinic_logo_color-300x47.png\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>About Cleveland Clinic<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><mark style=\"color:#138c00\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Cleveland Clinic<\/mark><\/strong> is a nonprofit multispecialty academic medical centre that integrates clinical and hospital care with research and education.
