Over time, these cells form a mass called a <strong><mark style=\"color:#0b5d8c\" class=\"has-inline-color\">tumour<\/mark><\/strong>. This was the case for Andrea Castellano, a 36-year-old Venezuelan mother of two girls, who underwent <strong><mark style=\"color:#0b5d8c\" class=\"has-inline-color\">robotic partial nephrectomy surgery<\/mark><\/strong> at <strong><mark style=\"color:#138c00\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Cleveland Clinic Florida<\/mark><\/strong>, performed by Dr. Alberto Pieretti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">Andrea was diagnosed by a urologist in Venezuela, who ordered an ultrasound of her kidneys after she came in for cystitis. To everyone&#8217;s surprise, a mass was found in her right kidney, and after a<strong><mark style=\"color:#0b5d8c\" class=\"has-inline-color\"> CT scan<\/mark><\/strong>,<mark style=\"color:#0b5d8c\" class=\"has-inline-color\"> a computed tomography scan<\/mark>, it was confirmed that she had a malignant tumour called renal cell carcinoma. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/afcomunicacion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/La-paciente-recibio-segunda-opinion-medica-1024x498.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7844\" width=\"389\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/afcomunicacion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/La-paciente-recibio-segunda-opinion-medica-1024x498.png 1024w, https:\/\/afcomunicacion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/La-paciente-recibio-segunda-opinion-medica-300x146.png 300w, https:\/\/afcomunicacion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/La-paciente-recibio-segunda-opinion-medica-768x373.png 768w, https:\/\/afcomunicacion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/La-paciente-recibio-segunda-opinion-medica-1536x747.png 1536w, https:\/\/afcomunicacion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/La-paciente-recibio-segunda-opinion-medica.png 1718w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 389px) 100vw, 389px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">After being assessed by several oncologists in her home country, many suggested she would have to have her whole right kidney removed. But they also told her that in the United States her kidney could be saved, so she did not hesitate to go to<strong><mark style=\"color:#138c00\" class=\"has-inline-color\"> Cleveland Clinic Florida<\/mark><\/strong>, where she met Dr. Pieretti, who told her about<strong><mark style=\"color:#0b5d8c\" class=\"has-inline-color\"> robotic partial nephrectomy surgery<\/mark><\/strong>, in which only the affected part of the kidney is removed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\"><mark style=\"color:#0b5d8c\" class=\"has-inline-color\">&#8220;Robotic partial nephrectomy is a type of surgery in which part of the kidney is removed to treat a disease or injury. Once your surgeon corrects the condition, they will reconstruct your kidney,&#8221;<\/mark> explained Pieretti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">Andrea had the surgery at the end of September 2022, with successful results, and is now cancer-free. &#8220;She will now live a normal life with both kidneys working, without needing dialysis,&#8221; said the specialist.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/afcomunicacion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Doctor-Alberto-Pieretti-urologo-de-Cleveland-Clinic-1024x766.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7840\" width=\"327\" height=\"244\" srcset=\"https:\/\/afcomunicacion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Doctor-Alberto-Pieretti-urologo-de-Cleveland-Clinic-1024x766.png 1024w, https:\/\/afcomunicacion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Doctor-Alberto-Pieretti-urologo-de-Cleveland-Clinic-300x224.png 300w, https:\/\/afcomunicacion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Doctor-Alberto-Pieretti-urologo-de-Cleveland-Clinic-768x575.png 768w, https:\/\/afcomunicacion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Doctor-Alberto-Pieretti-urologo-de-Cleveland-Clinic.png 1335w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 327px) 100vw, 327px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">The surgeon added that most people recover fully within four to twelve weeks, depending on the type of procedure. He said this cancer is unusual in someone so young and that the tumour was found incidentally; Andrea&#8217;s cystitis was not a symptom of her&nbsp;renal cell&nbsp;carcinoma.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">Other types of kidney cancer include <strong><mark style=\"color:#0b5d8c\" class=\"has-inline-color\">transitional cell cancer:<\/mark><\/strong> this accounts for 6% to 7% of all kidney tumours.  It usually starts in the area where the ureter connects to the main part of the kidney, and can also occur in the ureters or bladder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><mark style=\"color:#0b5d8c\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Renal sarcoma:<\/mark><\/strong> this is the least common form of kidney cancer, accounting for only 1% of cases. It starts in the connective tissues of the kidneys and, if left untreated, can spread to nearby organs and bones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><mark style=\"color:#0b5d8c\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Wilms tumour:<\/mark><\/strong> this is the most common type in children.
