HOMS has performed more than 1,700 successful robotic surgeries.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" src=\"https:\/\/afcomunicacion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Durante-la-intervencion-quirurgica-en-el-HOMS.png\" alt=\"During the surgical procedure at HOMS\" class=\"wp-image-8905\" style=\"width:369px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/afcomunicacion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Durante-la-intervencion-quirurgica-en-el-HOMS.png 800w, https:\/\/afcomunicacion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Durante-la-intervencion-quirurgica-en-el-HOMS-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/afcomunicacion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Durante-la-intervencion-quirurgica-en-el-HOMS-768x512.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">During the surgical procedure at HOMS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-1 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Santiago.<\/strong><em> <\/em>\u2013 For the first time in the country, a team of doctors at <strong><mark style=\"color:#1573ac\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Hospital Metropolitano de Santiago (HOMS),<\/mark><\/strong> led by thoracic surgeon Jonathan Vargas, <strong><mark style=\"color:#09810f\" class=\"has-inline-color\">successfully performed three robotic lobectomies for lung cancer. <\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-2 wp-block-paragraph\">These new surgeries add to the more than 1,700 robotic surgical procedures performed at <strong><mark style=\"color:#1573ac\" class=\"has-inline-color\">HOMS,<\/mark><\/strong> with excellent results, no mortality and few complications, well below the international average, <strong><mark style=\"color:#1573ac\" class=\"has-inline-color\">over almost 11 years of experience.<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3 wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We continue to advance and set the standard in robotic surgery in the Dominican Republic for the benefit of all Dominicans and international patients; there are now six specialties performing robotic procedures, with the most recent addition of thoracic surgery, along with urological, oncological, obesity, gynaecological and colorectal surgery,&#8221; <strong><mark style=\"color:#09810f\" class=\"has-inline-color\">said the director of the robotic surgery programme and deputy director of HOMS, Dr. H\u00e9ctor S\u00e1nchez Navarro.<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-4 wp-block-paragraph\">He also highlighted that the hospital backs enterprising Dominican doctors; with these three lung lobectomies, <strong><mark style=\"color:#09810f\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Dr. Jonathan Vargas became the country&#8217;s first robotic thoracic surgeon.<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-5 wp-block-paragraph\">During the procedures, Dr. Vargas was joined by international robotic thoracic surgery expert Dr. Luis Herrera, as well as <strong><mark style=\"color:#1573ac\" class=\"has-inline-color\">HOMS<\/mark><\/strong> specialists Juan F\u00e9lix Capell\u00e1n, director of surgery, and Jos\u00e9 \u00c1lvarez Torres, the hospital&#8217;s medical director.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-6 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><mark style=\"color:#1573ac\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Vargas said lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death worldwide,<\/mark><\/strong><mark style=\"color:#1573ac\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong> <\/strong>so if there are possible symptoms such as a persistent cough, shortness of breath or chest pain, it is important to see a doctor.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7 wp-block-paragraph\">With robotic procedures there is evidence of less bleeding and fewer surgical site infections, the most frequent complication of any type of surgery. <strong><mark style=\"color:#1573ac\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Hospital stays are also shorter and recovery is much faster. <\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-8 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><mark style=\"color:#09810f\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Robotic surgery<\/mark><\/strong> is considerably safer and gives the surgeon far greater visual capacity, with full HD three-dimensional vision. The robot&#8217;s 1 cm instruments, with 270\u00ba articulation, make it possible to perform complex procedures in small cavities comfortably and safely.
