{"id":13198,"date":"2026-05-21T10:27:15","date_gmt":"2026-05-21T14:27:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/afcomunicacion.com\/uncategorized\/santiago-strengthens-its-culture-of-quality-and-medical-tourism-with-a-panel-on-international-health-accreditations\/"},"modified":"2026-05-21T10:27:15","modified_gmt":"2026-05-21T14:27:15","slug":"santiago-strengthens-its-culture-of-quality-and-medical-tourism-with-a-panel-on-international-health-accreditations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/afcomunicacion.com\/en\/press-room\/santiago-strengthens-its-culture-of-quality-and-medical-tourism-with-a-panel-on-international-health-accreditations\/","title":{"rendered":"Santiago strengthens its culture of quality and medical tourism with a panel on international health accreditations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Health sector leaders agreed at MediTalk Regi\u00f3n Norte that international accreditations are key to quality of care, patient safety and the competitiveness of medical tourism.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Santiago, Dominican Republic.<\/strong> At MediTalk Regi\u00f3n Norte, held on 19 May at the Hotel Santiago, Curio Collection by Hilton, health sector leaders, regulatory authorities and international experts agreed that international certifications and accreditations have become an essential strategic component for strengthening quality of care, patient safety and the competitiveness of medical tourism in the Dominican Republic.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The panel &#8220;Certifications in the Health Sector: Guaranteeing Quality and Safety in Care&#8221; was moderated by Dr Alejandro Cambiaso, president of the Dominican Health Tourism Association (ADTS) and executive president of M\u00e9dico Express, alongside Juan Gerardo Mesa, director of Licensing and Accreditation at the Ministry of Public Health; Sergio Blasco, general manager of HOMS; H\u00e9ctor Mej\u00eda, founder and CEO of Hospital Design &amp; Quality (HDQ); and Giancarlo Sanguinetti Durand, CEO of Amadita Laboratorio Cl\u00ednico.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the panel, Dr Alejandro Cambiaso stressed that international accreditations are a fundamental tool for raising the quality of care for both Dominican and international patients, while strengthening the trust, competitiveness and sustainability of health institutions. He also emphasised the importance of centres choosing accreditations with global recognition and credibility, endorsed by the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"682\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/afcomunicacion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Alejandro-Cambiaso-682x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11314\" style=\"aspect-ratio:0.6660386668460951;width:211px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/afcomunicacion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Alejandro-Cambiaso-682x1024.jpg 682w, https:\/\/afcomunicacion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Alejandro-Cambiaso-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/afcomunicacion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Alejandro-Cambiaso-768x1153.jpg 768w, https:\/\/afcomunicacion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Alejandro-Cambiaso-1023x1536.jpg 1023w, https:\/\/afcomunicacion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Alejandro-Cambiaso.jpg 1066w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 682px) 100vw, 682px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cambiaso also noted that the Dominican Republic has advanced significantly in international certifications, but said that &#8220;the time has come for plastic surgery and dental centres to start getting certified and accredited internationally&#8221; in order to keep raising the competitiveness and international standing of the Dominican health sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Juan Gerardo Mesa, for his part, stressed that health licensing and the Quality Seal of the Ministry of Public Health and INDOCAL are the regulatory foundation needed to guarantee standards of quality, patient safety and continuous oversight in health establishments. He also encouraged centres, once licensed, to keep moving towards international certifications and accreditations as part of a true culture of quality and continuous improvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sergio Blasco shared HOMS&#8217;s experience with Accreditation Canada, noting that the process has transformed the hospital&#8217;s organisational culture, strengthened patient-centred care and allowed growth of more than 150% in international patients, as well as making it easier to build strategic relationships with global insurers and international medical referral networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">H\u00e9ctor Mej\u00eda addressed the experience of implementing Joint Commission International (JCI) standards in Latin America, stressing that international accreditations should be seen as models of cultural transformation, anticipatory risk management and institutional sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Giancarlo Sanguinetti Durand highlighted the impact of certifications such as ISO 9001 and ISO 15189 on clinical laboratories, strengthening traceability, diagnostic reliability, continuous improvement and the trust of doctors and patients through evidence-based processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The panellists concluded that accreditations are strategic tools for building a true culture of quality, strengthening institutional governance, raising patient safety and establishing the Dominican Republic as a regional leader in medical tourism and world-class health services.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Santiago, Dominican Republic.
