DiDi boosts connections with the Metro and Cable Car of Santo Domingo

  • DiDi, a technology intermediation app, is offering passenger users an initiative designed to ease the connection with public transport and the first and last mile of their journeys in Santo Domingo.
  • Close to 17% of the passenger users who have taken up the promotion have done so more than once; those who have not yet used it can get savings of up to 25% on that first or last leg to or from the stations included.

Santo Domingo, October 2026. With the aim of easing mobility, DiDi has offered passenger users an initiative designed to ease the first and last mile of their journeys through six stations of the Metro and Cable Car of Santo Domingo.

In a city like Santo Domingo, completing everyday journeys can mean combining different solutions with an impact on mobility. In many cases, this involves covering an additional distance between the point of origin or destination and the nearest public transport station. That need is especially relevant in a system that moves more than 340,000 people a day: according to 2024-2026 figures from the Office for Transport Reorganisation (OPRET), that is the average number of users who take the city’s Metro and Cable Car each day.

As part of this strategy, passenger users can get savings of up to 25% on ride requests starting or ending at six points of the Metro and Cable Car system, as an option to make that first or last leg more affordable alongside public transport: María Montez, Concepción Bona, Centro de los Héroes and Juan Pablo Duarte, on the Santo Domingo Metro, as well as Sábana Perdida and Los Alcarrizos, on the Cable Car. The promotion is available every day between 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. on requests starting or ending at these stations (Terms and Conditions apply).

The figures also show repeat use of the promotion: close to 17% of passenger users with an identified redemption have used it more than once. For those travelling to or from the stations included who have not yet taken up the benefit, the promotion is an option to save on that first or last leg before or after using the Metro or the Cable Car.

“For many people who travel daily in Santo Domingo, their journeys neither begin nor end at a station. Getting to the Metro or the Cable Car, or completing the trip from there, also takes time and money, and that is where technology can play an important role in connecting different options with an impact on mobility and making those journeys simpler. With this initiative, at DiDi we want to ease that first and last mile, complementing the options that already exist in the city and putting technology at the service of more affordable connections for people. At DiDi we aim to improve the quality of life of Dominicans through the use of technology,” said Douglas Quesada, senior Communications manager for DiDi.

With this initiative, DiDi aims to keep exploring how technology eases the connection with public transport and contributes to more intermodal mobility in Santo Domingo. The promotion will remain active until the end of October 2026.
