First Digital Health Study of the Dominican Republic to be presented

- The research, which will serve as a basis for establishing the current situation and recommendations to strengthen digital health in the country, is being carried out by INTEC’s Social Security Observatory (OSES) in collaboration with Fundación Plenitud.
Santo Domingo, June 2022.- At the second Latin American Digital Health Congress, to be held on 6 and 7 September and organised by Arium Salud Digital and AF Comunicación Estratégica, the results of the study “The State of Digital Health in the Dominican Republic” will be released, including a diagnosis and analysis of the current state of the health sector’s digital transformation.
Fedor Vidal, CEO of Arium Salud Digital, the company sponsoring the study, reported that the research is being conducted by the Social Security Observatory (OSES), part of the Vice-Rectorate for Research and Innovation (VRII) of the Santo Domingo Institute of Technology (INTEC), with Fundación Plenitud acting as technical adviser. The Observatory is backed by public and private sector institutions such as Mapfre Salud ARS, Primera ARS de Humano, ARS Universal, ARS SENASA, AFP Popular, AFP Siembra, the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank.
“This first publication will analyse the needs of the public and private sectors and show the status of care processes in service provider organisations and the insurance and pharmaceutical sectors, as well as their digitalisation and digital transformation needs and priorities,” said the study’s lead researcher, Magdalena Rathe, president and founder of Fundación Plenitud and Technical Adviser to OSES.
Amelia Reyes Mora, president of AF Comunicación, expressed her enthusiasm that the research will be presented at the congress, to be held at the Real InterContinental Santo Domingo hotel. The study, covering Santo Domingo, Santiago, Puerto Plata, La Romana and Punta Cana, will also include patients’ perspectives on the digitalisation of health services and its impact on their quality of life, as well as the main challenges to advancing digital transformation.
It will also address the perceptions of the main public and private sector players, including directors of hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres, professional associations, representatives of health risk administrators and pharmacies, and heads of these organisations’ technology departments, as well as citizens and patients. At the same time, it will become a reference for the sector.
