Hospital IMG celebrates fifth anniversary as a benchmark for service, infrastructure and technology in the East

Bávaro, Punta Cana, July 2022.- Hospital IMG is marking its fifth anniversary with more than 130,000 patients treated, standing out as a benchmark for innovation, service-centred care and patient safety, as well as cutting-edge infrastructure and technology, in the eastern region of the Dominican Republic.
Engineer Carlos Prato, the hospital’s president and founder, said that in a short time they have become a hospital benchmark in Bávaro and across the whole eastern region of the country. “In 2019 we became the first Dominican hospital to be licensed for Telemedicine, we are pioneers and the only facility in the city with a magnetic resonance imaging unit, and the first to perform laparoscopic surgery in Bávaro. We also performed the first interventional cardiovascular surgery with a stent and implanted the first pacemaker in the East,” he said.
The centre, which has a fully digital imaging unit, has set the standard for innovation and technology in healthcare in Bávaro. “We are a destination for local users, tourists and health specialists too,” highlighted Prato.
Likewise, Dr. Miguel Russo, director general of Hospital IMG, said they are grateful to the medical staff and employees for their commitment over these five years, and very satisfied with the achievements made.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Hospital IMG became the referral centre for La Altagracia province, receiving more than 9,000 cases, with a resolution rate of more than 99%. It also administered the first COVID-19 vaccine in the east of the country.

In addition, Hospital IMG will hold sports tournaments with teams made up of medical staff and employees.
The hospital’s leaders reported that 2022 marks the beginning of its expansion, with a second-level centre in Punta Cana and continued growth in its medical tourism services.
Hospital IMG Corporate Social Responsibility Programme
Hospital IMG’s CSR programmes are supported by the Fundación IMG Nahir Contreras de Prato, founded on 23 July 2019. The foundation, chaired by Fernando Prato, has the mission of improving the quality of life of women and children in vulnerable communities.
Prato stressed: “The IMG Foundation programme reaffirms our social commitment to the community. Through the foundation we have carried out health outreach programmes benefiting more than 800 adults and 600 children from the most vulnerable communities in the tourist areas.”
Since its creation, the Fundación IMG Nahir Contreras de Prato has carried out major health days in Higüey, Bávaro and Verón, as well as donating toys, clothes and medicines. It also performs medical procedures and gives health education talks.
The foundation’s “You matter to us” anniversary day involved medical staff from paediatrics, gynaecology, vascular medicine, nutrition and general medicine, together with the administrative team of Hospital IMG and the IMG Dental Clinic. During the event, medicines were donated for cardiovascular conditions, bacterial infection control, deworming and paediatric respiratory treatments, and dental consultations and cleanings were provided.
In this regard, engineer Carlos Prato, president and founder of Hospital IMG, thanked everyone who joined in, including Luminova laboratory, the Banreservas volunteer programme, the Verón Community Centre and the Ministry of Public Health.
