  • Huawei held the LATAM ICT Congress 2022 in Cancún, where operators and industry representatives shared their experiences with 5G in Latin America.

[Cancún, Mexico, June 2022] Huawei successfully held the LATAM ICT Congress 2022, supported by GSMA GSMA Intelligence and the ITU. The congress aims to build a global communication platform for the industry and promote the rapid development of 5G and digital transformation in Latin America. Latin American operators, regulators, industry organisations, 5G ecosystem partners, analysts and media partners attended the congress.

Focusing on the theme MBB Empowers Digital Latin America, leading 5G operators and industry representatives gave keynote speeches sharing their 5G success stories and exploring the path to ICT digital transformation in Latin America.

As one of the first operators to put 5G into commercial use, LG U+ of South Korea spoke about the key factors in pioneering 5G. 5G operators in Latin America, including Vivo Brazil and Telecom Argentina, showcased innovative and leading 5G business cases in different regions. Green Packet, an application service provider, shared its insights on accelerating 5G FWA monetisation. GSMA Intelligence, an authoritative analyst institution, explained the value of the 6 GHz spectrum and future industry trends.

Huawei has launched a series of 5G and 5G-ready products and solutions for diversified MBB spectrum scenarios in Latin America. In TDD large-bandwidth continuous spectrum scenarios, Huawei’s next-generation TDD extremely large antenna array (ELAA) with Massive MIMO technology improves performance and reduces energy consumption. In FDD legacy spectrum evolution scenarios, the FDD ultra-wideband multi-antenna solution (4T-8T-Massive MIMO) maximises spectrum value. In addition, Huawei provides an intelligent multi-band coordination solution, HashBAND, to deliver an optimal user experience in scenarios where FDD and TDD frequency bands coexist.

Representatives of Claro Peru, Vivo Brazil, the Mexican Senate’s Science and Technology Committee, GSMA and Huawei discussed the theme “The 5G Path: Lighting up Digital LATAM”, sharing their ideas on how to build high-quality 5G networks.

Cross-generation experience is the foundation of high-quality 5G networks, and large-bandwidth Massive MIMO is essential for operators to build high-quality 5G networks.

As more 5G spectrum becomes available, 5G will thrive in Latin America. The region’s leading countries, such as Brazil, Mexico, Chile and Peru, have deployed 5G networks. Many operators have launched commercial 5G packages and are actively exploring new applications for individual consumers, households and industries.
