Alpha Finanzas recognised for fostering financial inclusion in the Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo, April 2023.- For developing a 100% digital solution for the financial inclusion of Dominicans through the advanced use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), Alpha Finanzas received a special innovation award in the Medium-Sized Company category at the National Private Sector Quality Award.

Christian Pichardo, CEO of Alpha Finanzas, explained that they designed the MIO technology platform, on which thousands of people and SMEs from all 32 provinces have registered in more than 20 business categories, increasing their sales by an average of 25%, generating higher income and directly benefiting thousands of Dominican families across the country.

“We are proud to have taken part for the first time and to receive this recognition. It is a great boost to continue helping people and businesses from the fintech world to manage their finances properly through digital platforms and practices that enable financial inclusion,” said Pichardo.

Through the MIO Negocios app (as it appears in the Apple and Google stores), people and businesses can sign up online easily, simply and securely and start accepting credit and debit card payments from their mobile phones. In addition, the MIO Banreservas Electronic Payment Account aims to serve unbanked people who need tools to manage their money and finances through an account and a card, free of charge.

Ignacio Méndez, director of the Award; Euri Andújar, president of the National Association of Herrera Businesses and Industries (ANEIH); Katja Afheldt, ambassador of the Delegation of the European Union to the Dominican Republic; and Celso Juan Marranzini, president of the National Council of Private Enterprise (CONEP) and member of the Award Council, presented the award to the Alpha Finanzas representative at a ceremony attended by President Luis Abinader.

The Dominican Republic National Private Sector Quality Award is the country’s highest recognition for quality and excellence in management among Dominican companies producing goods and services, rewarding their efforts to improve performance, competitiveness and sustainable development, on a par with other organisations of excellence internationally.
