Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. – The Dominican Health Tourism Association (ADTS) and AF Comunicación Estratégica have announced the 8th International Health and Wellness Tourism Congress, to be held on 9 and 10 June 2027 at the JW Marriott Hotel Santo Domingo, consolidating its position as the industry’s leading event in Central America and the Caribbean.

The congress will bring together national and international leaders from the health, tourism, investment, finance, insurance, technology and wellness sectors, with the aim of fostering strategic alliances, attracting investment, promoting the creation of high-value jobs, accelerating the transfer of technology and knowledge, and strengthening the Dominican Republic as an internationally recognised tourism and medical destination.

Dr. Alejandro Cambiaso, president of ADTS, and Amelia Reyes Mora, vice-president of the association and president of AF Comunicación Estratégica, highlighted that the congress has become the leading regional platform for cross-sector integration, knowledge sharing, high-level networking and the development of investment and business opportunities.

“Health tourism represents a strategic opportunity to diversify the economy, attract investment and strengthen the country’s competitiveness. This congress connects leaders and organisations to turn those opportunities into projects that help consolidate the Dominican Republic as an internationally recognised medical and tourism destination,” said Dr. Alejandro Cambiaso.

For her part, Amelia Reyes Mora highlighted the value of the congress as a space that brings together the sectors that shape the development of this industry. “We bring together those with the capacity to create synergies, develop projects and open up new business opportunities. We aim to foster valuable connections that contribute to the growth of the sector and to the country’s international profile,” she said.

During the event, international experts, business leaders, investors, government authorities and decision-makers will analyse the main trends transforming health and wellness tourism, including artificial intelligence, digital transformation, precision medicine, international accreditation, sustainability, patient experience and new models of investment and collaboration.

The event will also promote public-private synergies, innovative projects and initiatives aimed at the sustainable development of the health, tourism and wellness sectors.

The previous edition brought together more than 40 international speakers, representatives from 12 countries, 48 sponsors and partner organisations, and 11 media outlets, reflecting the event’s growing international reach and cross-sector character.

The 2027 programme will include keynote lectures, panel discussions, presentations of studies and strategic initiatives, and networking and business meetings aimed at strengthening the health and wellness tourism ecosystem.

Participation is expected from the leaders of hospitals, clinics, specialist centres, hotels, insurers, financial institutions, investment funds, airlines, pharmaceutical companies, medical technology providers, universities, international organisations and government representatives.

The organisers stressed that health tourism helps raise the quality and safety standards of services, drive international certification and accreditation, incorporate cutting-edge technologies, strengthen human talent, promote the transfer of knowledge and best practices, and attract new investment that benefits both the sector and national and international patients.

In addition to generating foreign currency and energising multiple sectors of the economy, this industry contributes to the creation of specialised jobs, stimulates innovation and strengthens the competitiveness of the Dominican Republic as a safe, reliable and excellent tourism and medical destination.
