The Human Papillomavirus vaccine, the key to preventing cervical cancer

• Most cases of cervical cancer are estimated to be linked to Human Papillomavirus, or HPV. It is the fourth most common cancer among women.

(April 2022.) Human Papillomavirus is considered the most common viral infection passed from person to person, through direct skin contact during sexual activity, causing millions of new cases worldwide.

Since 2006, the US Food and Drug Administration has recommended the HPV vaccine for children from age 9 to adults aged 26. It has now extended that age range to 45.

The HPV vaccine is designed to protect against human papillomavirus, the main virus responsible for causing cervical cancer, as well as some other sexually transmitted cancers.
