Promerica offers a new way to pay without using physical cards

2 minutes read

  • Banco Promerica customers can make payments from their Android phones and from Garmin® and Fitbit® devices.

To keep offering innovative products and services, Banco Promerica offers a new payment method called Promerica Pay, a digital wallet that turns a mobile phone into a means of payment so users can shop without carrying cash or their credit or debit cards. The Promerica Pay platform is the first to connect with Visa’s global hub, highlighting the importance of the relationship between Visa and Grupo Promerica regionally.

This digital payment service is also integrated into the Fitbit Pay™ and Garmin Pay™ wallets, allowing customers to turn their smartwatches into a means of payment without cash or a physical card. Fitbit Pay™ and Garmin Pay™ functionality is available for iPhone and Android phones, making Banco Promerica a market pioneer in offering this service through these platforms.

In its first version for the Dominican Republic, Promerica Pay is enabled for Android smartphones with Near Field Communication (NFC) technology and for the VISA card portfolio. For the Fitbit Pay™ and Garmin Pay™ wallets, the service is available on both iPhone and Android phones.

“Banco Promerica is committed to continuing to drive digital transformation in its payment products and services, in order to give customers unique, differentiating and secure experiences that go beyond expectations. As an example, we have launched our Promerica Pay digital wallet and integrated our products into other wallets such as Fitbit Pay™ and Garmin Pay™,” explained Carlos Julio Camilo, executive president of Banco Promerica Dominican Republic.

To use the service, cardholders’ VISA credit and debit card information is linked to the phone through an easy, fast enrolment process with high security standards that digitalises the card on the device.

When paying with Promerica Pay, customers should tell the cashier they will pay contactless with their phone. When the POS terminal indicates, they select the card to use, tap make payment and hold the device over the POS, and the transaction will be completed in a few seconds.

“Promerica Pay makes the move to digital payments easier and improves the experience for our customers, who will be able to carry out transactions quickly and securely, just as with a chip card, with the convenience of not having to use their physical cards,” said Luis Manuel Pérez, vice-president of Payment Methods.

As well as the Dominican Republic, the app is available in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama.
