Dental medical tourism or dental tourism is a subsector of health tourism that is in dynamic growth and expansion.
Santo Domingo. – The Dominican Republic is a very attractive tourist destination that has been consolidating and advancing in the international rankings as a medical tourism destination. In addition to its offer of the beach, mountain, golf, and gastronomy, its dental and wellness services are positioned.
According to Dr. Alejandro Cambiaso, president of the Dominican Association of Health Tourism (ADTS), as a nation, we must promote the diversification of the tourism portfolio and especially medical and dental tourism since globally more than 11 million people travel a year to take care of their health.
In the United States according to data from the Medical Tourism Association (MTA), there are more than 120 million people without dental insurance, and many Diaspora Dominicans come to the country for the trust in their specialists and affordable prices.
Cambiaso says that dental tourists seek quality treatments related to dental implants, dental aesthetics, invisible orthodontics, and technology such as 3D printing and painless procedures.
They find very attractive packages that include airport pick-up and transfer to the hotel, dental consultation, photographic examination before and after the intervention, radiological examination, CT Scan and procedures in addition to postoperative controls that guarantee continuity of care.
However, the health tourism expert says that in order to continue strengthening this market niche in the country, we must work to generate alliances between medical and dental associations and between the government and private sectors. Similarly, we must combat intrusion and clandestine centers and continue strengthening the promotion, quality, and safety of services and the entire value chain of dental medical tourism.
As the Dominican Health Tourism Association, they encourage professionals in the sector to be members of their respective specialized societies and that the centers are authorized by the Ministry of Health and pursue international certifications and accreditations.
He also believes that it is important to encourage second dental opinions and to carry out synergies with banks to finance treatment and have professional civil liability insurance, international departments, multidisciplinary team, bilingual staff, and expert-guided advertising.
The Health and Wellness Tourism Guide is a key tool to guide potential health tourists, likewise the 4th International Health and Wellness Tourism Congress, organized by the Dominican Health Tourism Association (ADTS) and the specialized agency, AF Strategic Communication, which will be a great opportunity to learn about the new trends in the sector and make contact with medical facilitators and companies dedicated to attracting international patients, as well as insurance with premium and international policies that offer coverage to dental procedures.
The 4th International Health and Wellness Tourism Congress will be held from September 5 to 7 at the facilities of the Renaissance Jaragua Hotel in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.
