Dominican Republic, November 2022. Nightlife in the Dominican Republic, mainly in Santo Domingo and Santiago, is back in full swing and people have returned to their usual activities. Now, in the run-up to the Christmas season, Dominicans and foreigners are frequenting places with a wide variety of food, nightclubs, colmadones and other leisure spots at night much more often.

According to a study by DiDi, the world’s largest mobility technology app, the Colonial City, Plaza Juan Barón and Güibia Beach top the list of busiest night-time spots in the National District, along with Avenida España and Avenida Venezuela in Santo Domingo Este. In Santiago de los Caballeros, the Monumental Area and the City Centre are the main attractions.
These areas offer a wide range of food for every taste, open spaces and bars to share drinks and delicious dishes with friends. The options are increasingly varied, ensuring there can be a new place to explore every weekend.
Likewise, in Santo Domingo, areas such as the University Zone, Bella Vista, Piantini and Naco are added to the list, along with shopping centres such as Ágora Mall, Galerías 360 and Sambil. At the latter, visitors go to the cinemas, another entertainment draw in the country’s two main cities.
The National District has the highest number of vehicles in the country, with 28.5% of the total, equivalent to 1,380,075; followed by Greater Santo Domingo with 15.9%, while Santiago accounts for 7.9%. These figures include motorcycles, cars, SUVs and buses, according to records from the Directorate General of Internal Taxes (DGII). This results in major traffic jams due to congestion and limited parking.
“DiDi’s aim is for users to enjoy their leisure and entertainment time without worrying about driving or finding a parking space. So, thanks to trips arranged through the app, DiDi users in Santo Domingo and Santiago can enjoy the nightlife with peace of mind, especially now that Christmas and New Year celebrations are approaching,” says Jorge Ordóñez, General Manager of DiDi for Central America, the Caribbean, Colombia and Ecuador.
With nightlife on the rise, DiDi shares some recommendations.
First: Leave the car at home. It will save you time and money. DiDi offers you an affordable and safe way to get to these places.
Second: Book ahead. Don’t leave it to chance. Trying to book a restaurant at 3pm on a Friday is a matter of luck. Plan your weekend and book on Thursday if possible. As a courtesy, remember to cancel your booking if you can’t make it.
Third: Share your plans or destination with family and friends, so your family doesn’t worry. Remember, these small acts of consideration give peace of mind to those who love you.
On this last recommendation, so that users and driver partners can enjoy their nights without worry, and to prevent and minimise risks for the community, DiDi has its full international safety framework, including more than 20 tools for before, during and after the trip.
“We want people to enjoy the nightlife with peace of mind, especially now that Christmas and New Year celebrations are approaching. That’s why we have a 24/7 phone support line, response patrols for on-site support in partnership with Dominican Watchman, user verification, encrypted and hidden phone numbers, trusted contacts, GPS monitoring to detect deviations or abnormal routes, accident insurance during the trip and more,” said Ordóñez.
And as the icing on the cake, the DiDi Champion contest is now running, in which participating driver partners can earn up to $52,000 in extra earnings as a team. Don’t miss this unmissable promotion, with more than one winner.
