Huawei aims to make using the cloud “as easy as turning on a tap” in Latin America and the Caribbean

- The Huawei Cloud Latam Summit 2022 examined the arrival of the Cloud Native concept and its impact on value chains and new business.
[Rio de Janeiro] Huawei aims to make adopting cloud services as easy as turning on a tap, a company executive said.
“Everything on the cloud. Everything as a service on the cloud,” said Fernando Liu, President of Huawei Cloud Latin America.
Seeking to drive the growth of cloud-based business in Latin America, Huawei, a leader in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices, presented its Everything as a Service strategy and promoted the concept of Cloud Native applications at its Huawei Cloud Summit Latam 2022 in Rio de Janeiro.

Cloud native is a dynamic model with an agile methodology for developing technology in and for the cloud. It focuses on task automation, microservices and other tools – hence Everything as a Service, the theme of this event celebrating three years of Huawei Cloud in Latin America and the Caribbean.
A CNCF report shows that 81% of companies used cloud-native infrastructure in 2021, and 95% are using it or plan to. Liu said Huawei Cloud’s customer base grew by 103% and its number of partners by 93% in 2021.
The cloud-native era is approaching, he said.
“Looking ahead to the next decade, cloud, AI, 5G and IoT may become the key technologies for our whole society and economic growth. The cloud is the most important infrastructure for the digital economy,” said Liu. “Our strategy to support business in Latin America is to embrace cloud native with Everything as a Service: think cloud native, act cloud native,” he explains.
The Huawei executive said organisations should embrace the cloud for accelerated development, as intelligent digital technology is the future. Globally, Huawei Cloud has integrated more than 240 services and more than 50,000 APIs to bring the latest AI, application development and big data technologies and development tools to the cloud. Huawei Cloud’s innovation and experience will help more organisations move to the cloud in a more agile and better way.
By the end of the year, Huawei will have deployed 29 regions and 75 availability zones. Its cloud service is available in more than 170 countries worldwide. In Latin America, Huawei Cloud has the largest number of local regions from north to south, with 3 regions in Mexico, Chile and Brazil, and local zones available in Argentina and Peru. Huawei Cloud is committed to building a global network that allows Huawei Cloud services to be accessed within 50 milliseconds from anywhere in the world. Companies will no longer need to build their own data centres.
Indeed, the company announced that in 2023 it will open two new availability zones (AZs) – locations with one or more data centres – both in Latin America. It also confirmed the construction of a third public cloud data centre in Chile and a new point of presence (POP) in Colombia
“So far, we are the only cloud provider that can deliver such low latency to customers in Latin America, which is key to customers adopting and moving to the cloud easily,” he said.
“Everything on the cloud. Everything as a service on the cloud.” This is the future Huawei Cloud is looking towards. Huawei will build and look after the infrastructure – servers, storage, networks, redundancy, security and everything else – so customers don’t need to build their own data centres. With a local connection to our cloud, it takes just one click to get Infrastructure as a Service. It’s as easy as turning on a tap, at lower cost and with a smaller carbon footprint.
Looking ahead, Huawei Cloud will continue to empower industries through Infrastructure as a Service, Technology as a Service and Expertise as a Service, to unleash digital with Everything as a Service and build the cloud foundation for an intelligent world, he said.
