Santo Domingo. – Ubiquitous internet access, virtualisation and exponential technologies are the three most important factors helping and accelerating the convergence of digital technologies and healthcare, explains digital health specialist Fedor Vidal, CEO of Arium Salud Digital.

A ubiquitous network is one that enables devices to integrate and communicate. “The greater the global access to the internet, the easier it is to have healthcare anywhere,” explained Vidal.  

Patient care

Under the old model of care, patients had to go somewhere, to a doctor’s office, when they were ill. Now, increased internet access is driving the use of telemedicine, teleconsultations for specific validations and remote patient monitoring.

On virtualisation, the international expert in health sector technology and digital transformation added that what is happening right now is that this infrastructure is being managed by third parties.

“Cloud management is changing access to healthcare.” For this to advance, all players, including doctors, need to master the technologies so they can work without relying on third parties, stressed Vidal.

It is one whose price and complexity fall significantly in a short time, while its capacity and number of applications grow exponentially. This makes it possible to solve an enormous number of problems.

“One of the biggest changes is the shift in mindset within the health sector to use this technology to change the way we have practised medicine for more than 200 years,” concluded the specialist.
