Banco Promerica celebrates 25 years of commitment, growth and transformation with the exhibition “Los Caprichos by Goya and Dalí”

• Banco Promerica celebrated its 25 years in the Dominican Republic with the exhibition “Los Caprichos by Goya” and the version reworked by Dalí, from the Ortiz Gurdián Collection.

Santo Domingo. In a moving evening that combined art, history and reflection, Banco Promerica Dominican Republic celebrated its 25th anniversary of operations in the country, opening the exhibition “Los Caprichos by Goya” and “Los Caprichos by Goya reworked by Dalí”, from the Ortiz Gurdián Collection, at the Centro Cultural Amaya in Santo Domingo.

Over these 25 years, Banco Promerica Dominican Republic has consolidated its position as one of the fastest growing and most transformed financial institutions in the country. It has made notable progress in digital innovation, financial inclusion and sustainability, strengthening its presence in the main productive sectors and supporting the development of thousands of companies and individuals.

This celebration commemorates not only a quarter of a century of history, but also the fruit of constant evolution combining strategic vision with the Bank’s social and cultural commitment. In that spirit, the exhibition, open to the public from 6 to 22 November 2025, brings together two masterly visions that speak to each other across time about the human condition, social criticism and imagination, reaffirming Banco Promerica’s commitment in support of art and culture in the Dominican Republic.

In his speech, Carlos Julio Camilo, executive president of Banco Promerica Dominican Republic, expressed his gratitude to clients, authorities, partners and staff, highlighting the road travelled from its beginnings in the year 2000 to becoming one of the fastest growing financial institutions in the country.

“Twenty-five years ago we started quietly, but with a firm conviction: to practise banking that is close at hand, responsible and locally focused. Camilo highlighted the institution’s strategic, technological and financial progress, including its leadership in digital innovation, sustained growth and robust risk management, reaffirming Promerica’s vision of “driving communities to go beyond their limits. A story made possible by the backing of Grupo Promerica, which next year marks 35 years of driving banking that is close at hand, committed and regional in outlook; banking that fosters genuine relationships and supports communities on their path of improvement.

Francisco Martínez, president of the Board of Directors of Banco Promerica Dominican Republic and executive vice president of Grupo Promerica, together with Francisco Ortiz Gurdián, vice president of Grupo Promerica, stressed the value of the exhibition as an expression of the bank’s commitment to art and culture, and as tangible proof of its purpose of generating positive impact in Dominican society. Both agreed that art, like responsible banking, has the power to transform lives, inspire reflection and build bridges between people and communities to reflect on critical thinking, creative freedom and the human capacity for reinvention. It is a tribute to the power of art to inspire more conscious societies.”

About the art exhibition

To mark its anniversary, Banco Promerica brings to the country the exhibition “Los Caprichos by Goya” and “Los Caprichos by Goya reworked by Dalí”, from the Ortiz Gurdián collection, bringing together two masterly visions that speak to each other across time about the human condition, social criticism and imagination. The original series by Francisco de Goya (1799), made up of etchings and aquatints, is one of the most emblematic works of Enlightenment thought, sharply denouncing the prejudices, superstitions and abuses of power of its time.

More than a century later, Salvador Dalí reinterpreted the series in heliogravures on paper (1977), re-created with drypoint and colour, giving it a symbolic, dreamlike reading that links the rationalist heritage with the exploration of the unconscious and the fantastic.

Curated by Dr Paula Gómez Jorge and the exhibition designer Melissa Berigüete, the show stands out for the importance of this collection of prints, previously presented at the Ortiz Gurdián Foundation Art Centre in the cities of Managua and León, Nicaragua.

“Goya used printmaking as a vehicle for moral and social criticism, in defence of reason and the Enlightenment spirit. Dalí, a century later, took up those images and transformed them into a dreamlike universe charged with symbolism and creative freedom. This meeting between the two invites us to think about how art transcends time and becomes a mirror of humanity,” said Dr Paula Gómez Jorge.
