HOMS donation boosts the Fundación Madre y Maestra scholarship programme

• A donation from the Hospital Metropolitano de Santiago (HOMS) to the Fundación Madre y Maestra will allow outstanding students to study for PUCMM’s degree in Nursing.

Santiago, D.R.-.  The Fundación Madre y Maestra (FMM) of the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) has received a donation from the Hospital Metropolitano de Santiago (HOMS) to strengthen its scholarship programme.

Thanks to the contribution, academically outstanding Dominican students will be able to study for the degree in Nursing that PUCMM offers at its Santiago campus. Dr Mercedes Carmen Capellán, president of the FMM, received the financial contribution from Dr Rafael Sánchez Español, general director and president of the Board of Directors of HOMS, an institution that is proud to be among the founders of Guardianes de la Academia, the philanthropic investment trust created by the FMM to award higher education scholarships at PUCMM.

“For HOMS, investing in education is essential to the country’s development. This donation is not only a financial contribution, it is a statement of our faith in Dominican talent and in the need to train health professionals who are ever better prepared to meet the sector’s demands. Our commitment to the Fundación Madre y Maestra and to PUCMM also translates into support for the development of the Dominican Republic,” said Dr Rafael Sánchez Español.

“In order to keep promoting educational opportunities that transform lives, the FMM thanked HOMS for its generous gesture. This partnership allows us to widen the reach of our scholarships, making it possible for academically outstanding students to train at PUCMM. We are building a support network that strengthens the health system from its foundations, which is its human capital,” said the Foundation’s president, Mercedes Carmen Capellán.

The strategic collaboration between the two institutions underlines the importance of the link between the health sector and academia, seeking not only theoretical training but also high-quality practical experience, in PUCMM’s classrooms and laboratories. It also falls within academia’s greater interest in partnering with HOMS to develop human talent, contributing to a higher education institution that has done the most to encourage the development of the region and the country.

The meeting, which took place at the HOMS facilities, was also attended by the FMM’s executive director, Eduardo Reinoso, as well as executive representatives of HOMS.
