HOMS honoured for its contribution to health tourism in Santiago

• Last year the hospital received Accreditation Canada certification for its care processes focused on quality and patient safety to world-class standards.

Santiago. – The organising committee of Expoturismo 2023, the longest-standing tourism fair in the Cibao region, together with the Santiago Tourist Destination Cluster, honoured Hospital Metropolitano de Santiago (HOMS) for its major achievements and contributions to the development of health tourism, helping to strengthen Santiago as a destination.

The fair’s executive director, Carmen Yomaris Gómez, said that at this twenty-sixth edition of the northern region’s largest tourism promotion platform, they were honouring HOMS for the important international certification it received from Accreditation Canada (ACI), which raises the quality of health services in line with scientific and technological advances around the world, thereby boosting health and medical tourism in the northern region.

On receiving the award, Dr. Héctor Sánchez Navarro, deputy general director of HOMS, said he was very grateful for the effort and persistence of the hospital’s competitive, dedicated and highly committed teams, which make it a benchmark in innovation and quality of care.

“In 15 years, at HOMS we have helped improve health in our country and the region through greater specialisation, adding highly specialised and distinctive services such as robotic surgery; we still have many challenges and a long way to go,” said Dr. Sánchez Navarro.

At the event, held at the Hodelpa Gran Almirante Convention Centre in Santiago and also attended by José Clase, a member of the HOMS Board of Directors, they highlighted that HOMS’ vision is to be the leading private hospital in the Dominican Republic and an international model, which is why they are developing the Homs Health and Wellness Center (HHWC) to complement their current health tourism services.

HOMS is a member of the Dominican Health Tourism Association and the Hotel and Tourism Association of the Dominican Republic (Asonahores).

According to the Medical Tourism Association (MTA) in its most recent study, the 2020-2021 Medical Tourism Index, our country is the number 1 destination in the Caribbean and number 2 in Latin America.

Homs Health and Wellness Center (HHWC)

Hospital Metropolitano de Santiago and Marriott International signed a contract to develop the Residence Inn by Marriott – HOMS Health and Wellness Center, a professional tower and hotel that will consolidate health tourism for the Northern Region and the whole Dominican Republic.

The project comprises two buildings, one of thirteen floors, 10 of which are dedicated to professional medical consultation spaces, with state-of-the-art consulting rooms, spaces designed for meetings and treatment in specialties such as stomatology and oral health, a men’s health centre, ophthalmology, a Wellness Center and the Meta Íntegra Bariatric and Digestive Institute, as well as a biomedical research laboratory.

The hotel will also have 111 extended-stay wellness rooms for any type of guest needing a hotel on a given occasion. It will also provide accommodation for patients’ relatives and companions, and for patients themselves during recovery, as well as for foreign professionals who come to HOMS, Santiago and the region to perform procedures.

The professional complex also has a convention centre with capacity for almost four hundred people, auxiliary business rooms, multi-purpose classrooms and event spaces, with more than 700 parking spaces.
