Huawei helps Latin America achieve digital and sustainable development

- During Mobile World Congress 2024, Huawei reaffirmed its commitment to continue building digital and sustainable infrastructure in Latin America.
(Barcelona, Spain, February 2024.) At the 18th Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Huawei reaffirmed its commitment to continue building digital infrastructure in Latin America and the Caribbean, further promoting digital transformation and sustainable development in the region to achieve greater connectivity. At the same time, it reiterated its goal of protecting the natural environment and enabling more people to enjoy the benefits of digital technology.
Daniel Zhou, president of Huawei Latin America and the Caribbean, said that the new generation of information and communications technologies, such as 5G and 5.5G, is the first step towards digital transformation and industry upgrading. Digitalisation is accelerating in Latin America, which is at a critical stage in the deployment of fifth-generation networks. In this regard, Huawei’s priorities in Latin America are to provide technology-leading, secure and reliable ICT infrastructure products and solutions, promote inclusive connectivity and enable people to enjoy convenient, high-quality network services.
“We look forward to working with local partners to further drive the digital transformation process in Latin America through continuous technological innovation and to make a greater contribution to the development of the local digital economy,” said Zhou.
During a meeting with regional media attending MWC, the senior executive stressed that in the era of the digital economy, nurturing and developing digital talent is particularly critical. For this reason, Daniel Zhou of Huawei highlighted Huawei’s commitment to continue strongly promoting digital talent programmes in Latin America and the Caribbean. To date, the company has worked with more than 20 ministries and 400 universities to provide ICT skills training to more than 2,400 people.
Over the past year, Huawei has grown steadily in Latin America and remains committed to building ICT infrastructure and promoting wider connectivity in the region. For example, it worked with local operators to deploy the world’s southernmost 5G base station in Chile and connect the network to remote areas. In digital transformation, with more than 7,400 partners, it has driven the digital transformation of industry, including smart agriculture projects in Brazil and Jamaica. In addition, Huawei has worked with governments and non-governmental organisations in Mexico, Chile, Colombia and Ecuador through the TECH4ALL project to protect the natural environment and local biodiversity using information and communications technologies.
