INDEX and Huawei sign agreement to train Dominicans living abroad

• Among its commitments, Huawei will provide 30 certifications and 100 tablets to strengthen INDEX and its educational and co-development programmes.

Santo Domingo de Guzmán, Dominican Republic.- The Institute for Dominicans Abroad (INDEX) and Huawei Technologies Dominicana (Huawei) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to train Dominicans living abroad in Information and Communication Technologies.

The agreement, signed by INDEX executive director Carlos De La Mota and Huawei’s Vice President of Government and Enterprise Business, Liuyanxing, provides for making the learning platform and training courses of the “ICT Talent Development Plan” available to the Dominican community abroad, through which the telecommunications company shares its technological experience and knowledge.

“This agreement is an example of both organisations’ commitment to supporting Dominicans abroad, providing them with the information and communication technology training they so need to adapt to the new realities of the working world,” said director De La Mota.

Among its commitments, Huawei will provide 30 HCIA (Huawei Certified ICT Associate) certifications, which provide knowledge and skills in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), and 100 tablets to strengthen INDEX and its educational and co-development programmes, making technology more accessible to young Dominicans abroad and their home communities.

According to Huawei’s Vice President of Government and Enterprise Business, Liuyanxing, the Dominican Republic has taken ICT development very seriously to give everyone access to new services, which is why “Huawei is committed to supporting INDEX and the Dominican Republic as a whole in pursuing this goal, joining forces to close the digital divide at different levels”.

The agreement also states that INDEX and the company will create a Joint Technical Commission to administer and monitor the commitments made.

The event, held at the Dominican Foreign Ministry Convention Centre, was attended by Huawei’s Public Affairs and Communications manager, Yunessis Sánchez, as well as directors and other officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and INDEX.
