Cleveland Clinic will hold the webinar “Liver Transplantation at Cleveland Clinic” this Thursday 12 November at 8:00pm, led by Dr. Alejandro Pita and Dr. Teresa Diago Uso of the Department of Abdominal Transplantation.

Dr. Teresa Diago Uso is currently director of abdominal and hepatobiliary transplantation at Cleveland Clinic and quality director for the liver transplant and hepatobiliary surgery sections. Her main focuses are adult liver transplantation, living donor transplantation, surgical quality and medical education.

She also holds the academic title of Assistant Professor of Surgery at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine.

Dr. Alejandro Pita is a clinical transplant fellow at Cleveland Clinic Ohio, internationally known as one of the most comprehensive transplant programmes in the world and a leader in the field of organ transplantation. His clinical interests include adult liver transplantation, living donor transplantation and medical education.

In this webinar, broadcast via Zoom, the specialists will discuss the main developments in liver transplant procedures and the advantages for both patient and donor.

First totally laparoscopic living donor liver transplant surgery

At the end of last year, Cleveland Clinic successfully performed the first purely laparoscopic living donor surgery in the US Midwest for liver transplantation into an adult recipient. The advanced procedure is available at only a few hospitals worldwide, and Cleveland Clinic is the second US academic medical centre to offer this approach to living donor liver transplantation.

With advances in surgery and technology, living donor liver transplantation has become as important as deceased donor liver transplantation for saving patients with liver disease. At Cleveland Clinic, a multidisciplinary team carries out comprehensive living donor assessments to ensure successful outcomes for both donor and recipient.
