Santo Domingo-. Responding to the need for specialised staff, medical infrastructure and cutting-edge technology in the eastern region, more than one million two hundred thousand residents of Santo Domingo Este will for the first time have access to high-quality health services to international standards, thanks to the opening of Médico Express San Isidro in the second quarter of 2024.
Its opening will create more than 200 direct and 400 indirect jobs in 8,500 square metres of construction over four floors, with 19 consulting rooms and two smart operating theatres that combine protocol-based, human care with nature, creating a flexible and optimal therapeutic environment.
In May 2022, President Luis Abinader, together with Tourism Minister David Collado, led the groundbreaking for Médico Express with investors and its founding partners, Dr. Alejandro Cambiaso, executive president, and Francesco Fino, commercial vice president, unveiling its disruptive and accessible model, which represents a paradigm shift in how health services are built, operated and delivered in the country.
It is the first outpatient centre in a modern network of healthcare centres that will be located across the country, with an investment of more than one billion pesos and financial backing from Advanced Asset Management, Lazul Inversiones and the Development and Export Bank (BANDEX), highlighted Dr. Cambiaso.
Its infrastructure is designed in compliance with the Ministry of Public Health’s local licensing rules and the standards of the American Institute of Architects, with major local and international strategic partnerships aimed at strengthening Dominican medical tourism.
This new health services offering is based on the concept of outpatient clinical and surgical care centres, with emergency services, advanced diagnostic imaging and artificial intelligence, a clinical laboratory, cardiology, paediatrics, gynaecology, preventive medicine, dentistry, a women’s clinic, modern ophthalmology and gastroenterology units, an international department and the main medical specialties.
Technology and innovation in service
Médico Express San Isidro will pioneer multiple technologies and procedures in Santo Domingo Este.
To make it easier to access the centre and ensure continuity of care, it will have a mobile app for booking appointments and viewing results, alongside telemedicine and software that will integrate electronic medical records, imaging and an administrative module.

The proximity of Médico Express San Isidro to Las Américas airport and the port of Santo Domingo makes the healthcare centre a strategic access point to meet demand for medical services from the area, Dominicans living abroad, the Caribbean islands and cruise passengers. It accepts the various local health insurance plans, including the basic plan, as well as the main international and travel insurers.
