Payless donates shoes to children from Red de Misericordia and Aprender y Crecer

To celebrate Family Month and welcome Christmas, Payless is giving 500 pairs of shoes to children from Aprender y Crecer and Red de Misericordia, in an event full of joy and fun.
Santo Domingo, November 2019.- At a colourful gathering, children from the Aprender y Crecer programme enjoyed an afternoon of shopping at Payless, thanks to a donation initiative now in its twelfth year.
This year, Payless wants to highlight and celebrate children as the heart that unites families, so the youngest members of the household were invited to enjoy a shopping experience in the run-up to Christmas.
The children taking part were able to choose the pair of shoes they liked best from Payless’s wide range.
Denise Bernard, vice president of Payless Latin America and the Caribbean, was moved by what this activity means for the company: “Seeing the smiles on the faces of children, who are the source of joy in families, is what drives Payless ShoeSource to carry out this initiative,” she said.
Bernard stressed the importance of this activity as a way of strengthening integration and contributing to collective wellbeing: “It’s good to remember that some families don’t have the same opportunities as others, and contributing to the wellbeing of others is an act of gratitude on Payless’s part,” she said.
Eric González, Payless manager in the Dominican Republic, expressed his satisfaction at the success of this activity, which they have been carrying out for more than a decade. “This is Payless’s twelfth annual shoe donation in the Dominican Republic, this time as part of Family Month and Christmas, so we are happy to do our bit for the happiness children deserve,” said González.
A group of children from the Aprender y Crecer programme and the programme’s coordinator, Solanye Pineda, received the gift vouchers in Santo Domingo, at an event full of joy, popcorn, candyfloss, games and children’s music.
Likewise, in early December, vouchers will be handed out in Santiago to children sponsored by Red de Misericordia, who will also be able to choose the styles they like best. The vouchers will be received by Itzel Díaz and Olga Arocha, representatives of the organisation.
This activity, called “Payless Gives Shoes to Children”, was launched in 2007 in Latin America and the Caribbean as a Social Responsibility programme, through which Payless supports important social causes benefiting low-income children in the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama and other countries in the region.
