- Banco Promerica held the 2nd International Investment and Nearshoring Forum of the Dominican Republic, with President Luis Abinader, business leaders and investors gathered to examine the opportunities reshaping manufacturing and global value chains.
Santo Domingo, August 2026. Banco Promerica Dominican Republic held the 2nd International Investment and Nearshoring Forum of the Dominican Republic, consolidating a high-level forum that brought together government authorities, business leaders, national and international investors and executives from multinationals to examine the opportunities that are reshaping investment, manufacturing and global value chains.
The event was attended by His Excellency the Constitutional President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader Corona; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Víctor “Ito” Bisonó; the president and CEO of Grupo Promerica, Ramiro Ortiz Mayorga; the executive president of Banco Promerica Dominican Republic, Carlos Julio Camilo; Johannes Kelner, executive director of the National Council of Export Free Zones (CNZFE); the president of the Board of Directors of the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (AMCHAMDR), Francesca Rainieri; along with leading representatives of the country’s productive, industrial and investment sectors.
President Luis Abinader said the forum has established itself as a high-level space for dialogue that brought together government authorities, business leaders, national and international investors and executives from multinationals to examine the opportunities that are reshaping investment, manufacturing and global value chains.
Opening the meeting, Carlos Julio Camilo, executive president of Banco Promerica Dominican Republic, stressed that the transformation of global supply chains and the growth of nearshoring represent an unprecedented opportunity for economies able to offer stability, talent, infrastructure and a long-term vision.
“Today the conversation about investment goes well beyond geographical location. Investors are looking for competitive ecosystems, capable of bringing together innovation, talent, infrastructure and the ability to deliver. The Dominican Republic has shown that it can compete in that arena, and this forum seeks precisely to create connections, share international experience and contribute to building new development opportunities for the country,” said Carlos Julio Camilo.
This edition looked in depth at the opportunities offered by the medical device and electronics manufacturing industries, bringing together international leaders such as Robert Griffin, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Wiring Devices at Eaton; Paul Guth, President of Pacon Manufacturing Corporation; Larry Vasco, General Manager Latin America North at Vantive; and Chris Chupp, Founder & CEO of Greater Goods, who shared their perspectives on investment, innovation and advanced manufacturing.
The agenda also included an analysis of Costa Rica’s experience in developing the medical device and value-added services industries, with executives from Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies, Procter & Gamble and FZ Associates taking part. Manuel Estrella, president of the Board of Directors of Grupo Estrella; Miguel Lama, president of Corporación Zona Franca Santiago; and Claudia Pellerano, president of ADOZONA, addressed the challenges and opportunities for strengthening the country’s productive capacity and attracting higher value-added investment.
The day closed with a keynote by Rebeca Hwang, entrepreneur, investor and professor of technology entrepreneurship at Stanford University, who shared her view of the opportunities the Dominican Republic has to strengthen its competitiveness and move towards higher value-added industries.
The meeting highlighted the importance of collaboration between government, the private sector and the international investment community, establishing itself as a reference point for promoting partnerships, attracting investment and strengthening the country’s competitiveness. First held in 2025, the International Investment and Nearshoring Forum of the Dominican Republic continues to widen its reach and its relevance within the national economic agenda.
