Santo Domingo. 2025 – Banco Promerica Dominican Republic becomes an official signatory of the United Nations Principles for Responsible Banking, a global framework for driving a sustainable banking industry, developed in collaboration with banks around the world and the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI).
This commitment reflects Banco Promerica Dominican Republic’s determination to align its business strategy with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement on climate change, making sustainability a central pillar of its operations. By adhering to the Principles, the bank reaffirms its vision of leading in sustainable finance, promoting responsible practices that generate long-term value for its clients, strategic partners, shareholders and society.
Carlos Julio Camilo, executive president of Banco Promerica Dominican Republic, said that, by joining the global community of responsible banks, the institution strengthens its leadership in sustainability, working with like-minded institutions to share good practice, develop innovative tools and accelerate positive change. “We firmly believe that leading with responsibility and sustainability turns our actions into an engine of tangible impact, driving the construction of a fairer, more resilient and genuinely sustainable future. That conviction guides every decision we take, consolidating our commitment to equitable development that benefits both current and future generations,” Camilo stressed.
As part of its sustainability strategy and following the adoption of the Principles, Banco Promerica Dominican Republic will identify and measure the environmental and social impact of its activities, set concrete targets in the areas where it has most influence and report publicly on its progress on a regular basis. This approach will allow it to anticipate risks, seize opportunities and contribute actively to the transition towards more sustainable economies.
The step represents a significant milestone at a strategic moment for facing global challenges such as climate change, loss of biodiversity, pollution and social inequality.
Ramiro Ortiz Gurdián, chief executive of Grupo Promerica, reaffirmed this commitment in his own words: “We believe that change consists in taking responsibility for transforming our environment, and we are determined to be the engine that drives sustainability in regional banking. Working together, we will make every action of Grupo Promerica contribute to a better future for the new generations, “Signing the Principles for Responsible Banking is not merely a symbolic act, it is a commitment, and for Gurpo Promerica it is a profound expression of who we are. It is in our DNA, in the way we understand progress, in how we map out our strategy and in every decision we take. This commitment drives us to build a fairer, more sustainable and more inclusive future, standing with conviction alongside the communities in every country where we are present.
By becoming a signatory, Banco Promerica Dominican Republic becomes the seventh bank in Grupo Promerica to adopt the UN Principles for Responsible Banking, reaffirming our commitment to generating a positive impact on society and the environment. In parallel, as a group, we have four banks that have signed the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), strengthening our strategy of inclusion and gender equity. In the same way, and consistent with our vision of sustainability, on a consolidated basis we have placed more than USD 700 million in sustainable bond issues, channelling resources into initiatives that drive economic, social and environmental development in the region.
