Green technology to care for the environment: KIO Networks

Today, the 40 Data Centres of KIO Networks, one of the most innovative Information Technology companies in Latin America, run on renewable energy. Adding up all their power capacity, it would be the equivalent of keeping the city of Paris lit day and night, including the Eiffel Tower, in an environmentally friendly way.
“At KIO Networks we have focused on running an environmentally friendly operation. We are convinced that technology should be an enabler and a catalyst for wellbeing and development, which includes caring for the environment in which we operate, whether by incorporating clean energy, strengthening recycling or minimising the use of paper,” explained Erika Domínguez, director of Strategic Planning and Corporate Communication at KIO Networks.
In addition to using renewable energy in its Data Centres, KIO Networks has taken part in reforestation initiatives in Mexico, because of the positive impact they have on the environment: it is estimated that in one year, an acre of mature trees can provide oxygen for 18 people, and a square kilometre of forest can generate up to a thousand tonnes of oxygen a year.
KIO Networks has 11 Digital Principles, shared across the whole organisation, aimed at reducing the use of paper by taking advantage of collaborative digital platforms, complemented by recycling, reuse and reducing the use of water, paper, plastic, batteries and other materials.
As well as adopting renewable energy in its Data Centres, KIO Networks holds ISO 14001, which guarantees efficient environmental management; LEED, which accredits sustainable buildings; and CEEDA (Certified Energy Efficiency in Data Centres Award), exclusive to Data Centres internationally, all with the same goal: to support an environmentally friendly operation for the benefit of future generations.
