First-time mother gives birth to quadruplets at HOMS

- A first-time mother gave birth to quadruplets at the Hospital Metropolitano de Santiago (HOMS), which will waive the family’s costs for the delivery and neonatal care.
Santiago, D.R. – The Hospital Metropolitano de Santiago (HOMS) was the setting for an uncommon and deeply moving birth: that of quadruplets, three girls and a boy, who came into the world by caesarean section, assisted by a highly specialised medical team.
The quadruplets are the result of the first pregnancy of Darianny Mercedes Acosta and Maicol Rafael López, and the surgical procedure was carried out successfully by a multidisciplinary group made up of gynaecologists, obstetricians, anaesthetists, paediatricians and nursing staff. Both the mother and the four newborns are in a stable condition and under medical observation, following the protocols established for highly complex multiple births.
As a gesture of institutional solidarity, HOMS announced that it will waive the family’s clinical co-payment and any additional cost related to the medical care of the delivery and the neonatal care, with the aim of easing part of the financial burden that comes with the simultaneous birth of several babies.
Added to this backing is the active support of Fundación HOMS, hospital staff, partner laboratories and the paediatrics team, who will provide the supplies needed to cover the basic needs of the four newborns during their first months of life.
The institution stressed that births of this kind, as well as representing a medical challenge, offer an opportunity to reaffirm the hospital’s commitment to life, to comprehensive care and to the wellbeing of every patient, especially in extraordinary situations such as this one.
The event has created an atmosphere of celebration at HOMS, where staff and the medical community are expressing their pride at having been part of such a significant moment. The arrival of these quadruplets is being welcomed as a symbol of hope, joy and unity.
