HOMS to hold its 2nd Clinical Hepatology Course

SANTIAGO DE LOS CABALLEROS: The Hepatology Unit of the Digestive Studies Center at Hospital Metropolitano de Santiago (HOMS) will hold its 2nd Clinical Hepatology Course on 14 June in the auditorium of the HOMS Health and Wellness Center, located in the Marriott Residence Inn in Santiago.
The course is made possible by the partnership between the Digestive Departments of Hospital Puerta de Hierro in Madrid and HOMS. The scientific event, successfully launched in 2024, is aimed mainly at gastroenterologists, hepatologists, internists, cardiologists, endocrinologists, nutritionists, radiologists and all health staff interested in liver diseases and how they are diagnosed and treated.
Dr. Brígida Navarro, head of the Gastroenterology Service at HOMS, reported that the scientific event is endorsed by the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), the Dominican Society of Gastroenterology (SODOGASTRO), the Latin American Association for the Study of the Liver (ALEH) and the Spanish Association for the Study of the Liver (AEEH).
Along the same lines, Dr. Christie Perelló, director of the Hepatology Unit at the HOMS Digestive Studies Center, explained that the course was created to improve and update health professionals’ knowledge of liver diseases and their complications. She stressed that the topics to be covered involve conditions that are very common in our country and have a major impact both economically and on quality of life.
For his part, Dr. José Luis Calleja, head of the Digestive Service at Hospital Puerta de Hierro and international adviser to the HOMS Digestive Studies Center, encourages all specialist physicians and residents interested in hepatology to take part in this international-quality course.
The programme will include five discussion blocks with presentations on: metabolic and alcohol-related liver disease, autoimmune liver diseases, viral hepatitis, drug-induced liver toxicity, complications of liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.
Renowned national and international hepatology speakers will take part, including Drs. Ramón Bataller, Nelia Hernández, María Londoño, Alejandra Villamil, Jesús Bañales, Alejandro Forner, Ana Mantilla, Fernando Contreras and Agustín Albillos; radiologist Mauricio Morel; and psychiatrist Rafael Johnson.
The HOMS Hepatology Unit is the country’s first unit specialising in liver diseases and their complications, offering first and second opinion consultations, transient liver and spleen elastography (FibroScan), hepatic vein catheterisation, transjugular liver biopsy and comprehensive liver cancer management.
