Opening ceremony held for the “Latin American consensus on access to peritoneal dialysis: towards an action plan”

Santo Domingo. The Dominican Society of Nephrology, together with the Latin American Society of Nephrology and Hypertension (SLANH) and the Latin American Home Dialysis Chapter (LAC), held the opening dinner of the “Latin American consensus on access to peritoneal dialysis: towards an action plan”, taking place on the 11th and 12th of this month in Punta Cana, La Altagracia province.
The opening ceremony was led by the Minister of Public Health, Víctor Atallah, who highlighted the importance of prevention in treating chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension, conditions that often lead to kidney complications. “We are going to optimise the cure,” said Atallah, stressing the Government’s focus on prevention as the key to improving public health.
The President of the Dominican Society of Nephrology, Dr. Eliana Diná, praised the importance of this consensus and thanked everyone present for their willingness to take part in a meeting that seeks to improve procedures for accessing peritoneal dialysis.
“Thank you to all the professionals and international experts who have supported us. It is said that education is the only weapon that can transform nations. So if we do not educate ourselves in how to do things well, we will not move forward.”
Also taking part were the LAC coordinator, Dr. Alfonso Ramos; Dr. Vicente Sánchez, President-elect of SLANH; and Dr. María del Carmen Calle, representative of the Andean Health Organisation – Hipólito Unanue Agreement (ORAS-CONHU).
