Technology, the most powerful tool for the health sector

KIOllege is an educational space dedicated to sharing, every month, the impact of major technology trends on our daily lives.

Telemedicine, devices such as smartphones or smartwatches capable of anticipating a heart attack, and the use of Artificial Intelligence to obtain highly reliable diagnoses are some examples of technological innovation in health that benefits a growing number of people, agreed the participants in the webinar Health in the age of technology, organised by KIO Networks through its College platform.

The webinar is part of the KIOllege initiative, an educational space dedicated to sharing, every month, the benefits of technology trends in people’s lives. This edition focused on digital transformation in healthcare, with Patricia Guerra, director of the KIO Networks Foundation, and Julián Ríos, CEO and co-founder of Eva, the first bra designed with an Artificial Intelligence algorithm to detect breast cancer.

Patricia Guerra, director of the KIO Networks Foundation, said: “We are at a point where technology can be a key factor in solving the challenges facing the health sector.” “The use of technology can help improve efficiency, availability and infrastructure in the health sector, as well as becoming an ally in providing closer and much more specialised care.”

“Today there are success stories where it is clear that technology is a powerful tool helping doctors treat their patients: prioritising mammogram readings, achieving exact measurements and applying optimal scheduling of chemotherapy doses. In addition, doctors in remote locations use technology to access crucial information and so reach accurate diagnoses; they can even consult several experts on the subject, wherever in the world they are,” Patricia Guerra stressed.

Artificial Intelligence applied to medicine has produced algorithms developed from the information in millions of medical studies, diagnoses and specialists’ experience, which, combined with technology, benefit thousands of lives.

“Mexico is in a very good position to start adopting technology in the health sector, especially for breast cancer, which is one of the main diseases affecting women. There are cases where patients have had the disease for five years without knowing it, and technology is our best ally in reducing these numbers and saving lives,” said Julián Río Cantú during his talk.

For KIO Networks, it is extremely important to have spaces for dialogue and knowledge sharing about the impact of technology on different sectors, such as KIOllege https://kiollege.kionetworks.com/, where every month various specialists share insights on highly relevant topics such as e-commerce, retail, finance and cybersecurity.

The platform is free to access. You just need to register at https://kiollege.kionetworks.com/ to access all the webinars held, as well as the material provided by the participating specialists.
