Huawei is committed to minimising its environmental impact during production and operations, and throughout the life cycles of its products and services.
-
Compared with 2019, its main products will be 2.7 times more energy efficient in 2025.
-
By 2025, Huawei’s top 100 suppliers will have set carbon reduction targets.
Santo Domingo, February 2022.- Carbon neutrality and the reduction of toxic emissions worldwide are bringing together different parts of society with the aim of emitting no more CO2 on the planet. That is why Huawei, through “Huawei Digital Power”, is presenting technological actions to build a smart, low-carbon society.
The tech giant is working hard to contribute to the environment by integrating digital and power electronics technologies to develop clean energy and enable energy digitalisation, with the goal of moving from a low-carbon to a carbon-neutral society.
“Huawei Digital Power is committed to driving the energy revolution for a better, greener future with integrated digital and power electronics technologies. We focus on clean power generation, energy digitalisation, transport electrification, green ICT infrastructure and integrated smart energy, and we work with industry partners to accelerate carbon neutrality,” says Félix Cheng, General Manager of Digital Power for Central America and the Caribbean
Environmental protection
Environmental protection is one of the four sustainability strategies of Huawei.
- Reducing carbon emissions: technical and management measures are used to reduce the carbon footprint of Huawei products. Likewise, its innovative ICT solutions can help entire industries reduce their carbon emissions.
- Promoting renewable energy: By integrating digital and power electronics technologies, Huawei drives a shift towards a low-carbon energy mix while making the most of renewable energy, ultimately providing green power for an intelligent world.
- Contributing to a circular economy: greener materials are used, helping to reduce the use of raw materials. The company’s products are more durable and easier to dismantle, making the world a better place while using fewer resources.
- Conserving nature with technology: innovative technologies are explored that amplify critical conservation efforts, such as monitoring, protecting and preserving ecosystems and enhancing biodiversity.
Huawei Digital Power’s green, low-carbon actions
By integrating digital and power electronics technologies, Huawei Digital Power uses bits to manage watts, accelerating carbon neutrality through:
Clean power generation: creating new power systems based mainly on renewable energy and extracting more electricity from every ray of sunlight.
Green ICT power infrastructure: Helping build green, low-carbon and smart data centres and communication networks, allowing every watt to support more computing power and connections. Ultimately, ICT infrastructure will become an engine for the green digital economy.
Electric Transport: digital technologies are used to redefine driving experiences and safety for electric vehicle (EV) consumers. For example, EVs can cover 200 kilometres on a 10-minute charge. This helps eliminate range anxiety, improves the charging experience, increases range per kilowatt-hour of electricity and accelerates the widespread adoption of electric vehicles.
Integrated Smart Energy: working with partners to integrate energy sources, grids, loads and storage to build low-carbon buildings and campuses, reducing energy costs and increasing energy efficiency.
Annual energy yield is 19 million kWh, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 9,000 tonnes, and Huawei, through Huawei’s Digital Power, is committed to accelerating the pace of energy conservation and emissions reduction. In terms of building low-carbon campuses, it has deployed photovoltaic projects at its research centres in Hangzhou, Nanjing and Suzhou, as well as at its Southern Factory in Dongguan, to deliver clean energy.
