ADOTURD and Médico Express sign a strategic agreement to bring sports tourism and health together in the Dominican Republic

• The Dominican Sports Tourism Association (ADOTURD) and Médico Express have signed an agreement to bring sports tourism and health together in the country’s offer for athletes and visitors.

Santo Domingo, D.R. – The Dominican Sports Tourism Association (ADOTURD) and Médico Express have signed an Inter-institutional Cooperation Agreement setting out a framework for collaboration to bring sports tourism and health together as complementary components of the Dominican Republic’s value proposition for athletes, delegations, sports academies and visitors.

The agreement was signed at the institutional meeting “Dominican Republic: Sports Tourism Hub”, held at the Hotel Embassy Suites, with representatives of the tourism, sport, health, financial and investment sectors taking part, and with the institutional backing of ASONAHORES.

The agreement was signed by Yerik Pérez, president of ADOTURD, and by Dr Alejandro Cambiaso, executive president of Médico Express, consolidating a shared vision aimed at raising the standards of safety, quality and experience in sports tourism in the country.

“This agreement responds to the need to structure sports tourism with standards and planning. Bringing in a medical partner such as Médico Express strengthens confidence in the destination and the athlete’s experience before, during and after each event,” said Yerik Shamir Pérez.

For his part, Dr Alejandro Cambiaso stressed that: “Sports tourism demands a modern, timely and reliable medical response. Médico Express brings a comprehensive outpatient model, with the clinical and technological capacity to support prevention, diagnosis and the safe recovery of athletes and visitors.”

The Framework Agreement sets out a framework for cooperation to:

•Effectively bring together sports tourism and medical tourism.

•Strengthen the medical response associated with sporting events, athletes and academies.

•Recognise Médico Express as the reference medical centre for major sporting events held in Santo Domingo.

•Raise the standards of quality, safety and experience linked to sports tourism.

The areas of collaboration include: medical protocols for events, clinical care for athletes and delegations, sports medicine and orthopaedics, preventive and cardiovascular check-ups, advanced diagnostic imaging, outpatient surgery where applicable, eye health and dentistry, as well as the development of medical-sports tourism programmes built into the sporting visitor’s itinerary.

A partnership with a national vision

With this agreement, ADOTURD strengthens its role as the organiser of Dominican sports tourism, while Médico Express brings clinical capacity, infrastructure and experience to raise confidence in the destination. The partnership helps position the Dominican Republic as a regional hub for sports tourism backed by high-level health services.
