CEMDOE strengthens its commitment to medical tourism with a modern international department

- The innovative health centre, a member of the Medical Tourism Association (MTA) and the Dominican Health Tourism Association (ADTS), has begun the accreditation process with Joint Commission International and announced the expansion of its international health department.
Santo Domingo, May 2022.- The Diabetes, Obesity and Specialties Medical Centre (CEMDOE) has expanded the structure and services of its international health department to boost its medical tourism strategy, signing agreements with major medical facilitators and international and travel insurers.
Its strategic partnerships include Caribbean Health TPA (CHTPA) and international insurers such as Just by Seguros Reservas, AETNA and BUPA. Likewise, for accommodation, CEMDOE signed an inter-institutional agreement with Homewood Suites by Hilton Santo Domingo, a long-stay hotel that meets accessibility and quality requirements for assisting health tourists.
Dr. Gastón Gabin, CEO of CEMDOE, highlighted the importance of fostering cross-sector synergies, which is why they are partner members of the National Association of Hotels and Tourism (ASONAHORES), the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (AMCHAMDR) and the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQUA). In addition, they carry out academic exchanges with educational centres and international hospitals such as Hospital Austral in Argentina, fostering the transfer of technology and knowledge.
CEMDOE’s international health department, led by Dr. Dayana Hernández, offers personalised support including a care manager who speaks the patient’s language or a translator, and coordination of itinerary, budget, travel and transport, as well as admission and discharge management, translation of medical documents and post-procedure care management via teleconsultation.
Services offered to the Dominican diaspora, patients from the Caribbean islands and North Americans include executive check-ups, dentistry, ophthalmology, dialysis, and care for diabetics and their complications.
CEMDOE’s expansion also includes high-complexity operating theatres, hospitalisation, a fertility centre and an emergency department.
“Our country’s strategic position, air and sea connectivity, and the shortage of high-complexity services in the Caribbean region led CEMDOE to comprehensively meet the needs of patients with chronic non-communicable diseases, with a multidisciplinary medical team and a robust technological and building infrastructure,” said Dr. Hernández.
To provide this high-quality, safe care, CEMDOE has grown to 39 specialties and has a team of more than 120 medical specialists to help position the country as a safe and competitive health destination.
It is currently going through the process of applying for Joint Commission International (JCI) Accreditation and will carry out major expansions, adding outpatient surgery, an emergency area and gastroenterology, among others.
