Santo Domingo. – It is impossible to separate the evolution of medicine from technological advances. In the last 20 years alone, humanity has seen the birth of tools such as precision medicine, immunotherapy, genetic testing, telemedicine, wearables, nanotechnology and 3D printing of medicines, organs and medical devices.
So explains Fedor Vidal, CEO of Arium Salud Digital, a company that builds tools to digitalise and transform the health sector.
He points out that digital transformation also includes artificial intelligence, bots, electronic records, brain mapping, the internet of things, evidence-based clinical decision systems, virtual assistants, drones, remote robotic surgery, blockchain and mHealth.
Vidal, who has worked on technology, infrastructure and quality-of-care implementation projects in countries such as the Congo, China, India, Brazil, Panama and Jamaica, says that in the Dominican Republic the digital transformation of the health sector is not just a need but a duty.
He explains that the system cannot continue to run manually, without data exchange, with inefficient processes and structures that cause delays and rework but, above all, produce no information.
According to experts such as Vidal, the drivers of change that will shape the world include the exponential development of technology and the Prevention-Extension model in medicine (preventing disease and extending lifespan).
