PIN Code arrives on DiDi in the Dominican Republic to strengthen safety features and trip request verification

3 minutes read

  • With the start of summer, a season when activity on the app increases, DiDi is reinforcing its safety features with a new verification function before a trip request begins.

Santo Domingo, July 2026. As part of DiDi’s commitment to developing safety features for its users, the app is introducing PIN Code, a function that generates a unique, random numeric code to verify that the passenger user and the driver user are correctly matched before a trip request begins, reducing the risk of getting into the wrong vehicle. This safety feature arrives just in time to protect the requests of passenger and driver users during one of the busiest times of the year: summer.

According to app data, on weekends during this season in 2025, activity on the app grew by 7.3% compared with other weekends of the year. During that period, areas such as Piantini, Naco, the Colonial Zone, the Malecón and Parque Iberoamérica saw higher activity, reflecting how Dominicans travel to recreation, dining and entertainment spots.

On the new feature, Douglas Quesada, Senior Communications Manager for DiDi, said: “At DiDi we work continuously to strengthen the technology solutions available in the app and support the user experience. The introduction of PIN Code reflects that commitment, adding a verification mechanism that strengthens safety features from the start of the trip request and helps us keep promoting a connection between supply and demand backed by innovative and reliable safety technology.”

Technology at the service of users

The PIN Code feature joins the ecosystem of safety features available in the app, designed to support passenger and driver users before, during and after each trip request. These include the ability to share the trip in real time with trusted contacts, the protection of personal information through anonymous phone numbers, and audio recording during requests.

This last feature, available to passenger and driver users, allows the audio of a trip request to be recorded manually or automatically to help document incidents and support investigation processes when necessary. It can be activated from the app’s Safety Centre, and recordings are stored in encrypted form, so they can only be used if an incident is reported, in accordance with the platform’s data protection standards.

Together, these safety features aim to support the experience before a trip request begins, during the trip and until it ends, adding different layers of verification, protection and assistance.

Currently, 99.99% of trip requests intermediated through the app are completed without any reported safety incidents, showing how technology can support passenger and driver users in connecting with greater confidence and peace of mind.
