- Font Gamundi and MIO have joined forces so the country’s colmados (corner shops) can easily accept card payments and grow their sales.
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, April 2022 – Font Gamundi, a leading supplier of products for the wholesale and retail segments, and MIO, the first Dominican fintech with principal VISA membership, have formed a strategic alliance to strengthen businesses’ value proposition by accepting credit and debit card payments 100% digitally through an app for tablets and mobile phones.
This alliance combines the track record, trust and reach of Font Gamundi and its business units with the many benefits of MIO, a digital financial management platform. The partnership will provide agility: through a 100% digital, mobile and secure registration process, MIO will be able to offer new alternatives to cash payments to segments that financial tools have so far barely reached.
Meanwhile, Font Gamundi brings its customers high-impact tools to grow their sales by accepting card payments, allowing them to be more efficient, as MIO has no fixed monthly costs, rent or maintenance fees. It also opens up opportunities for these businesses to expand their sales with new features such as an online catalogue and payment links, among other options in the MIO app, so they can face the changes brought about by the pandemic and seize the opportunities of this new normal.
“We want colmados, cafés, beauty salons, restaurants, kiosks, every business and Dominicans in general to be able to prosper, sell more, have more control over their business and a better commercial relationship with their suppliers and partners, helping them deliver a better, 100% digital, secure and more convenient experience for their customers,” said Maximiliano Barr, co-founder and commercial director of MIO.
For his part, José Luis Thomas, president of Font Gamundi, said: “It’s very important to us that our customers have tools and solutions that allow them to grow and manage their finances better, with new financial solutions within reach that are easy to use and access. That’s why we’ve formed this alliance with MIO, to bring them new, trustworthy, affordable and practical technology trends, developed to serve this rapidly growing market niche, which holds a significant position for us.”
Trust in the digital economy has grown substantially and cash use is declining, further accelerated by the pandemic. The synergy between these two companies is becoming a high-impact initiative for the Dominican economy, democratising access to and use of digital payments for Dominicans who are currently excluded.
